Broadway Show Hamilton Likely Broke NYC Human Rights Laws

Hamilton is the hottest show on Broadway.  Its show of diversity casting Black and Latino performers has won praise.  However, Hamilton likely broke strict NYC Human Rights Laws.

A casting notice from the producers began the controversy.

“Hamilton”  has a problem with the wording of their Audition Call. Especially when they go on the road and need performers in other states. That notice, which can be seen here, specifically requests “non-white” performers.

Other than that, they aren’t too picky about who auditions. The show flaunts tickets that will set you back $500.  Consider that the ad says, “No prior theater experience necessary”.  To be a cast member of a hit play is undoubtedly the wet dream of all the wannabes serving meals and bartending in any city where it plays.

“Hamilton” has edgy appeal. It replaces all the white guys who were our Founding Fathers with Black, Latino, and multi-ethnic performers.  Rap and hip-hop replace the King’s English to make the play, well…less white and more hip.

Hamilton is Godspell or The Wiz, switching what might be considered staid with modern. Unlike the others, Hamilton rides the razor’s edge of patriotism with overt Leftism. And let’s not forget that racism.

Asks civil rights attorney Randolph McLaughlin, of the Newman Ferrara Law Firm,

“What if they put an ad out that said, ‘Whites only need apply?’” Why, African-Americans, Latinos, Asians would be outraged.”

The New York City Human Rights Law makes it unlawful “for an employer… because of the actual written or perceived… race of any person, to discriminate.”

McLaughlin believes Hamilton blatantly is in violation of that law.

“You cannot advertise showing that you have a preference for one racial group over another…As an artistic question – sure, he can cast whomever he wants to cast, but he has to give every actor eligible for the role an opportunity to try.”

Recently, NYC has fined restaurants for advertising for “busboys” and “waitresses” instead of “bus help” and “wait staff.”

The Hamilton producer and director both stand by their opinion that the casting call is legal.  They insisted that it had gone through proper channels for approval.  The union lawyers denied they ever approved a notice calling for “only non-whites”.

According to Breitbart,

A spokesmen for Hamilton said the language in the advertisement, “seeking non-white performers,” was approved by Actors Equity, the Broadway union.

However, lawyers for the Broadway union have denied that the organization ever approved a casting call for “non-white” performers.

The New York City Commission on Human Rights is expected to work with the Hamilton production team to insure compliance with discrimination laws.

How stereotypically Liberal for the producers of Hamilton to claim the show promotes diversity, yet not allow whites in the production. Pretty clear what world these Liberals ultimately seek.

We may soon find out how much it costs to discriminate. If Hamilton loses in a lawsuit, America may learn what Liberals are willing to pay to oppress whites.
