When praise of President Trump comes from Leftists, hold on to your britches.
But that’s just what happened in the aftermath of the President Trump’s meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Both Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer praised the president for walking away.
Understand that two high-profile Democrats who almost always run contrary to the president praised him for walking away from the Hanoi summit.
On Thursday, former Vice President Joe Biden, a potential contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, as well as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer agreed with Trump’s decision not to sign the denuclearization deal North Korea proposed.
“Sometimes you have to walk,” Trump said Thursday. “I could’ve signed something today… But it’s better to do it right than do it fast.”
These are two people who supported the similar deal with Iran that Obama signed. So one has to wonder what’s wrong with this picture.
Obama signed a nuclear agreement that essentially gave Iran the keys to the kingdom. Under that agreement that President Trump described as “a disaster”, the world had little oversight to Iran’s nuclear program.
North Korea sought to structure a similar agreement where all sanctions would be lifted before North Korea began denuclearization.
“Basically they wanted sanctions lifted in their entirety and we weren’t willing to do that… We had to walk away from that particular issue,” Trump said.
President Trump has been to that rodeo. Lifting sanctions before getting anything has been standard operating procedure. And it’s an idiotic way to negotiate.
While at the University of Nebraska recently, Biden said:
“The president did the right thing by walking away.”
Nevertheless, Biden did manage to remind people that he was the idiot #2 after Obama. He implied that the summit should not have been held until success was assured.
So in other words, don’t have meetings to find common ground unless you know they will be successful. I suggest to bonehead Biden that the summit was successful. Not only did Trump accomplish the task of opening the lines of communication, he made it clear to the Korean dictator that he won’t give something unless he gets a lot.
Moreover, Trump accomplished this while leaving the door open for additional meetings and other maneuvers with the troubled country.
Trump accomplished what Obama didn’t. In fact, Obama had no idea how to begin these negotiations. Therefore, Kim Jong Un continued his saber-rattling. Who knows where this could have ended up, had Trump not stepped in.
And while his tactics may have been unconventional, calling the Korean leader “fat boy” and reminding him of America’s “bigger button”, what Trump did ultimately worked.
As for Biden and Schumer, they’re clearly being forced to recognize Trump’s prowess.
They certainly can’t keep Trump’s accomplishments secret for much longer. The good news keeps on coming.
In the run-up to the next presidential election, how will their comments fare? I believe this development signals that Biden won’t run for president. While this would be his best chance, ultimately he would be embarrassed by President Trump. Biden’s legacy would be better served by him not losing yet another presidential nomination and certainly a presidential race.
Biden famously brags that he could have beaten Trump. If he doesn’t run, he can continue with that nonsense. However, if he runs, he will be proven to be the loser he has always been politically.
Democrats in general eat a lot of crow these days. From Jussie Smollett to the Mueller fiasco, Democrats don’t have much to hang their hats on. Don’t expect this to change much. 2019 will be the worst year in the Democrats’ history. And 2020 won’t be any better.
