Leftist Outcry: Let No Tragedy Go to Waste

Gone are the days when a mass shooting was a rare event sparked by deep-seeded motives.

Instead, we live in a world where a google search for “recent mass shooting” yields multiple results.

It’s never easy to fathom how someone can wake-up one day and decide to take out as many people as they can. But the one thing we can always count on, without fail, is the liberal reaction.

It’s as predictable as the sunrise. Before the gun powder settles, leftists demand gun control as the only viable solution.

Consider Virginia Beach

Two weeks ago, a disgruntled city employee, DeWayne Craddock, fatally shot twelve people and wounded four more when he open-fired at a municipal building.

Socialist Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders took to twitter less than two hours after the horrible tragedy blasting the NRA and calling for more gun control.

“The days of the NRA controlling Congress and writing our gun laws must end. Congress must listen to the American people and pass gun safety legislation. This sickening gun violence must stop.”

Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA) and Rep. Norma Torres (D-CA) both took to twitter within hours of the shooting too.  Both Democrat members of the House of Representative claimed we need more gun control laws.  Before anyone knew anything about the shooter, before anyone knew how the shooter obtained the weapon, progressives were jumping at the opportunity to blame the gun.

Before I continue, I would like to point out that I do not now and I have never owned a gun.  I have not fired a gun in over twenty-five years.  It is safe to say that I am not a gun nut.

Is it really the guns?

It is more likely a combination of the progress pertaining to morality coupled with the agony children feel when reality shows them that they aren’t that special. Progress itself can’t accept any part of the blame, so instead society blames the gun. Guns have been prolific in the United States since before we were the United States. There was a time, even during my life, when every pickup truck at every rural high school in this country had at least one rifle hanging inside it. Has the gun changed so drastically during the past 200 years to cause mass shootings?

The technology or mechanics of firearms has not changed much since World War I. The same handgun designed for use by the US Military in 1911 is not only still available, it is still very popular. Fully automatic weapons have been banned for decades and semi-automatic weapons have been around for over 100 years. So honestly ask yourself, what has changed? Maybe, just maybe, the progress of society has created this phenomenon. Has putting so much focus on feelings and emotions instead of results and accomplishments made people incapable of managing the disappointments of everyday life? Has our collective morality progressed to a point where this is acceptable behavior to many people?

To quote one of our own earlier articles:

“As most of the country knows, Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, yet some of the highest murder rates.”

Last I checked, criminals don’t obey laws, so how do more laws make us any safer?

These same liberal progressives that jump on every horrible tragedy as another chance to scream for gun control wouldn’t dare leave their house without their armed security guards.  Personally, I especially like when they are at a podium giving a speech trying to restrict your gun rights while you can see their armed guards just a few feet away.

To the progressives, it is not really about “gun violence”.  It is about control.  These power-hungry politicians know that our right to keep and bear arms is about defending ourselves from them, the tyrannical government in the making. Factually, the second amendment doesn’t have anything to do with hunting. It also doesn’t really have anything to do with home or self-defense.

What is specifically mentioned in the text of the second amendment is a militia.

A militia is an armed citizenry ready for military action. Specifically, military action needed to defend our other rights. Progressives would love to repeal the second amendment. Most won’t come right out and say that though. Instead, they use baby steps. They call for restricting the types of firearms we can own, limiting the amount of ammunition we can have, how many bullets a gun can hold, universal background checks, and a firearms registry.

Before these megalomaniac progressives fight to pass new gun control laws maybe they should just focus on enforcing the laws already on the books.  It is a felony to lie on ATF form 4473 – Firearm Transaction Record.  In 2017 112,000 gun purchases were denied thanks to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.  12,700 of those denials were investigated by the Department of Justice.  Twelve people were prosecuted.  Twelve, that is the best the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms could do.  So progressive lawmakers, I will listen to your calls for new gun laws when you show me that you can enforce the existing laws.
