Impeachment August: Another Big Fat Nothing Burger

Just one month ago, twelve groups banded together in hopes of working to achieve a common goal: impeach President Trump.

They even gave themselves a 30 day deadline. But here we are, starting September, and once again liberals fell flat on their faces.

When are these leftists going to realize they are no match for Trump? The goal was to get districts behind impeachment during the August brake, when Congress is home with their constituents. And in a pathetic show of support, only one district stepped forward publicly to back impeachment. That district falls under Rep. Lauren Underwood (D), from Illinois.

As Breitbart elaborates:

Just weeks ago, [Underwood] was against impeachment. However, on August 20, after a town hall, she put out a statement saying she would back impeachment.

She is facing five Republicans challengers, including one who has already hit her on her impeachment stance.

But so far, other vulnerable Democrats managed to avoid coming out for impeachment, which is unpopular with the majority of Americans. A recent Monmouth University Polling Institute poll said 59% of Americans opposed impeachment — the highest number since it began tracking the issue in July 2017.

However, there was some progress for those who support impeachment over the recess, which still has a week to go. Fifty Democrats came out for impeachment after lawmakers left for recess on July 26, bringing up the total to at least 133 Democrats who back impeachment and constituting a majority of the Democrat caucus.

However, they are still 85 short of reaching a majority in the House, with the holdouts being moderate Democrats or those most vulnerable. Others are simply backing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) preference to wait until the public backs impeachment or the myriad investigations under way into the Trump administration turn up something incriminating.

Of course, the calendar year doesn’t have much time left on the clock. Thus, Pelosi worries democrats are hyper-focused on impeachment and not in tune with the issues voters on the left care most about.

No Go for Nadler

It sounds like once again Pelosi is striking down Nadler’s plans. It wasn’t long ago when Nadler made the talk show rounds, claiming his investigation included “formal impeachment proceedings.” Turns out, Nadler was just peacocking in hopes of looking a lot tougher than he really is.

But Nadler did manage to wrangle the support of Underwood. Of course, she probably knows her days in Congress are numbered. Thus, she needs to latch onto Nadler’s gimmick: Impeach Trump.

Breitbart continues:

Underwood’s Republican challengers include state Sens. Jim Oberweis of Sugar Grove, Sue Rezin of Morris, James Marter of Oswego, Ted Gradel of Naperville, and Danny Malouf of Woodstock, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Gradel responded to Underwood’s support of the impeachment inquiry by comparing it to her opposition to it just weeks ago as a “power grab.”

“Once again Underwood has sided with the extreme wing of her party at the expense of her constituents here in Illinois,” he said.

“I’ll go to Congress not to play political games like this, but to keep the economy growing and to fight for real solutions on the issues that are affecting Illinois families,” he added.

Underwood is a top National Republican Congressional Committee target for the 2020.

It’s pretty clear that Underwood will need to pack up her office once election day rolls around. And Nadler won’t be far behind her. Instead of insisting on impeachment, Nadler would be better off if he paid attention to a little story about Van Jones.

Big Fat Nothing Burger

Six months into the Trump administration, Van Jones was busted on video. He said the Russian investigation would turn out to be “a big fat nothing burger.” Liberals were outraged. How could a CNN contributor doubt Trump’s ties to Russian election interference?

Yet, here we are, two and a half years later, and Jones was right. Nothing has come of the Russian investigation. Imagine how much face leftists could have saved, had they listened in the beginning. But they didn’t. And when the Mueller report fell flat, leftists still didn’t throw in the towel. Instead, we have people like Nadler promising impeachment.

And when they dedicated an entire month to getting the job done, we ended up with another big fat nothing burger.

How many more times do they need to come out empty handed before liberals cut the crap and start working on the real issues plaguing America?
