K-9 Hero Aided ISIS Takedown

According to the Pentagon, a U.S. military dog injured in the Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi raid is “fully recovering” after aiding in the death of the ISIS leader.

Now, President Trump declared the dog a hero, and we couldn’t agree more!

After seeing Trump tweet a pic of the hero, I can’t help but connect the dots. It seems the President was a bit foretelling when he visited El Paso earlier this year.

This particular good old-fashioned German shepherd helped rid the world of one nasty terrorist.

According to the CT Mirror:

When the world heard of the daring U.S. raid on an ISIS leader this weekend, Sen Richard Blumenthal, a best friend of military dogs, joined other lawmakers in lauding the courage of American special forces – and a tenacious canine.

“We must also recognize the brave service of military working dogs, who work honorably alongside our troops & played a key role in the raid against al-Baghdadi. They too are heroes,” Blumenthal tweeted.

Although no U.S. forces were killed in the Saturday evening raid that led to the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a military working dog suffered injuries in the line of duty.

“Our K-9, as they call — I call it a dog, a beautiful dog, a talented dog — was injured and brought back,” Trump said on Sunday. “But we had no soldier injured.”

As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Blumenthal for years has sought more humane treatment of military dogs. And that effort could get a boost from this weekend’s raid on the ISIS leader.

Democrats Out of the Loop

Intelligence reports believed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was hiding at a compound in northern Syria’s Idlib Province. That’s when Special Ops planned a raid.

Of course, Trump didn’t let democrats in on the secret. And it was a calculated move based on Adam Schiff’s level of corruptness.

As NBC quoted:

“I think Adam Schiff is the biggest leaker in Washington.” Trump said before boarding Air Force One for a trip to Chicago. “You know that, I know that, we all know that. I’ve watched Adam Schiff leak. He’s a corrupt politician, he’s a leaker like nobody’s ever seen before.”

Trump said Sunday when he announced al-Baghdadi’s killing that he had not told Democrats of the plans because “I wanted to make sure this kept secret, I didn’t want to have men lost, and women, I didn’t want people lost.”

If you ask me, that was a smart move from the President.

Raid, Unfolding

This raid was markedly different from the raid under Obama’s command.

As Fox News explains:

Unlike the raid in Pakistan in 2011 that led to the death of Osama bin Laden, which was carried out by a small team of U.S. Navy Seals, the raid on al-Baghdadi’s compound was a relatively large assault by U.S. forces with a reported eight military helicopters landing in the Barisha area north of Idlib city — a few kilometers from the Turkish border.

The helicopters flew fast and low to the ground on their approach to the compound. And U.S. forces – between 50 and 70 soldiers from the U.S. Army Delta Force and Rangers – were met with sporadic gunfire.

Trump said U.S. forces breached the walls of the compound since the doors and other entryways were booby-trapped with explosives. Once inside the compound, the U.S. troops chased al-Baghdadi, along with three of the terrorist group leader’s children, into a “dead-end tunnel.”

Once inside the tunnel, al-Baghdadi set off a suicide vest he was wearing. Immediately, he killed himself and his children, while also partially collapsing the tunnel. Trump said U.S. military dogs chased the terrorist into the tunnel. And it was reported that at least one of the dogs was injured during the raid.

“He died after running into a dead-end tunnel, whimpering and crying and screaming,” Trump said. “The thug who tried so hard to intimidate others spent his last moments in utter fear, panic and dread – terrified of the American Forces bearing down.”

While al-Baghdadi’s body was severely mutilated in the explosion, his identity was positively confirmed by a DNA test conducted onsite.

Back to our Four Legged Hero

The public is waiting on pins and needles to learn this hero’s name. Is he German Shepard? Or perhaps a Belgian Malinois, a slightly smaller breed often confused for a German shepherd.  I can’t say with 100% certainty. What I can say is that a great dog helped put down a bad man thanks to a great President who’s willing to go against the grain to get the job done!
