President Donald Trump demonstrates decisive action. Particularly when he smells a rat. And when it comes to the “pandemic” of the Chinese Wuhan Virus, the president knows the stench of vermin permeates the Democrats and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Trump will deal with the Democrats later. But the WHO just received their punishment.
Today, President Trump announced in a White House briefing that he would halt U.S. funding to the World Health Organization pending a review of its handling of the Chinese Wuhan virus pandemic.
“Today I’m instructing my administration to halt funding of the WHO while a review is conducted to assess the WHO’s role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus. The WHO failed in this basic duty and must be held accountable.”
Clearly the president is right. The WHO failed miserably.
Consider that in January the organization sided with the Chinese government. At that time, WHO declared that the Chinese Wuhan virus spread animal-to-animal and not human-to-human.
In March, Taiwan accused the WHO of failing to publish early warnings from Taiwanese medical officials that the Chinese Wuhan virus could be spread via human-to-human transmission. The politics of the situation is that China refused to allow Taiwan to be a member state in the WHO. And the WHO capitulates to China on this issue.
The Blaze reported that a WHO doctor confirmed the same findings as Taiwan:
A World Heath Organization official said that she suspected human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus “right from the start,” a claim that runs counter to the guidance that the organization was giving to the rest of the world during the early moments of the pandemic.
The WHO has been heavily criticized by the Trump administration and others for repeating China’s lies since the start of the pandemic as the Chinese Communist Party attempted to cover up the extent of the outbreak.
“Right from the start, from the first notification we received on the 31st of December, given that this was a cluster of pneumonia — I’m a MERS specialist, so my background is in coronaviruses and influenza — so immediately thought, given that this is a respiratory pathogen, that of course there may be human-to-human transmission,” Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove said Monday during a WHO press briefing.
So we have two sources on the human-to-human transmission, and the recognition of Taiwan as the backdrop in this virus melodrama. However, those aren’t the only sticking points.
Later, the WHO appeared to get its marching orders from the Chinese, as more misinformation emerged.
U.S. lawmaker Senator Rick Scott called for Congress to investigate the World Health Organization’s ties to China. Scott accused the WHO of parroting Chinese propaganda during the Chinese Wuhan virus pandemic. In a statement, Scott said that the WHO needs “to be held accountable for their role in promoting misinformation and helping Communist China cover up a global pandemic.”
Scott added,
“We know Communist China is lying about how many cases and deaths they have . . . and the WHO never bothered to investigate further. Their inaction cost lives.”
Thankfully, President Trump closed the border to travel from Asia, undoubtedly saving tens of thousands of lives, if not more. Yet, the WHO attacked the travel restrictions.
Trump commented on this attack:
“The WHO’s attack on travel restrictions put political correctness above life-saving measures”.
One would think the WHO would praise Trump over travel. He quickly recognized the need to restrict travel until we got a handle on this. Further, the U.S. contributes over $400 million to the WHO every year, roughly 15 percent of the agency’s annual budget. In comparison, China funds about 0.2 percent of the WHO’s budget.
It’s unclear how much of the budget the president plans to cut. However, he’s making it clear that the WHO will protect the lives of Americans or suffer the budgetary consequences.
Trump continued,
“The silence of the WHO on the disappearance of scientific researchers and doctors, and new restrictions on the sharing of research into the origins of COVID-19 in the country of origin is deeply concerning. Especially when we put up by far the largest amount of money”.
China insists on controlling the narrative.
Over the weekend the Chinese government mandated that research papers on the origin of the Chinese Wuhan virus must be approved by the state before publication. And as Trump referenced, the disappearance of those who blew the whistle on the outbreak is troubling.
Clearly, China doesn’t want to face the consequences of allowing the outbreak to occur. Because the damages in the U.S. alone are in the trillions. Considering all the countries who would want recompense from China, that number would put the Chinese economy in triage.
Regardless, expect the U.S. to be the first on the list for payback. Because Trump doesn’t mince words when it comes to the U.S. economic power. As with NATO and the UN, the president has no problem cutting funds to organizations who treat America with disrespect or consider us their Sugar Daddy. In the case of China, the disrespect rings loud and clear.
