- President Trump and team continue to clean the Obama-era Department of Justice house. And their rat trap caught another rat.
Sources confirm that FBI Director Christopher Wray has asked FBI General Counsel Dana Boente to resign. Supposedly Boente was offered another position, but that was only for cover.
According to The Daily Caller:
Dana Boente, the FBI general counsel, has recently come under scrutiny over his role in the various investigations against former Trump advisers, including Michael Flynn and Carter Page.
Boente signed one of the four Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) orders against Page. Boente, who served as acting attorney general for the Russia investigation early in the Trump administration, signed the surveillance warrant against Page on April 7, 2017.
The Justice Department has deemed that order to be invalid because the FBI withheld information that undermined the bureau’s theory that Page was a Russian agent. The FBI cited the now-debunked Steele dossier extensively in its FISA applications.
Anybody who signed off on those bogus FISA applications should be in prison. But this Leftist clown will get a taxpayer-funded pension; though perhaps only for now.
The article explains Boente’s potential role in the Flynn setup. According to The Federalist, Boente came under scrutiny amid allegations that he opposed the release of documents in the Michael Flynn case. Given his role in the affair, one can see why he didn’t want this information to be made public.
It was reported that Boente led the charge to block disclosure of documents that Flynn’s legal team says are exculpatory in the case against General Flynn. A move only a guilty participant would make.
I suspect his “firing” doesn’t end his role in all of this. Surely John Durham will demand a conversation with Boente.
Boente replaced James Baker, a man who has become somewhat of a whistleblower.
Boente’s background:
In December 2012, Boente was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. So you know the man is a Leftist clown based solely on this information. Boente held this position until September 2013.
Next, he became the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia by virtue of the Vacancy Reform Act on September 23, 2013. He served just over two years in this position until December 15, 2015.
While in this role, Boente played a pivotal role in a case involving the former Virginia governor Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen. He sentenced them after a kangaroo court, stating, “No one is above the law… not a high public official, not even the highest public official [in Virginia].”
As one might expect of an Obama-era court case, McDonnell’s conviction was unanimously overturned by the United States Supreme Court on June 27, 2016. In the explanation, Chief Justice John Roberts declared that McDonnell’s actions as governor were “tawdry”. However, he agreed that instructions to the jury in his case about what constitutes “official acts” were so broad, they could cover almost any action a public official takes.
Against the wishes of Boente’s office, the Justice Department decided not to re-try either McDonnell and dismissed all charges. The damage had been done, as Virginia got its Democrat governor.
How many of these cases are there? Dozens if not hundreds.
The job done on McDonnell was a hit job. And Boente gleefully played his part. But he went too far and got caught in the rat trap.
Another one bites the dust.
