I’ve often theorized that Leftist academics are out of their minds. Now we have even more proof.
Finally one of them admits to being drugged out of his mind.
According to the New York Post,
Carl Hart is a Columbia University professor of psychology and neuroscience. He chairs the psych department and has a fondness for heroin – not only as a subject of scholarly pursuit but also as a substance for personal use.
At 54, the married father of three has snorted small amounts of heroin for as many as 10 days in a row and enjoyed it mightily – even if, as he recalls in his new book “Drug Use for Grown-ups: Chasing Liberty in the Land of Fear” (Penguin Press), he’s experienced mild withdrawal symptoms “12 to 16 hours after the last dose.”
And here I thought only white drug addicts like Hunter Biden get book deals. I doubt that “Professor” Hart got a $2 million advance for his drivel. The notion that he got a book deal at all perplexes me.
In most occupations, drug use is not condoned, and in fact prohibited. But apparently not at Columbia University. You can bet the Leftists are circling the wagons to provide cover for this clown.

But, as Hart sees it, the discomfort is a worthwhile trade-off.
“There aren’t many things in life that I enjoy more than a few lines by the fireplace at the end of the day,” he writes, pointing out that the experience leaves him “refreshed” and “prepared to face another day.”
Hart, who studies the effects of psychoactive drugs on humans, finds his use of the narcotic to be “as rational as my alcohol use. Like vacation, sex and the arts, heroin is one of the tools that I use to maintain my work-life balance.”
His reason for coming clean about doing opiates and the like is to advocate for decriminalizing possession of recreational drugs. The book makes the case “that the demonization of drug use – not drugs themselves – [has] been a tremendous scourge on America, not least in reinforcing this country’s enduring structural racism,” according to the publisher.
So now heroin is a recreational drug?
Frankly, I agree with the professor that all drugs should be legal. However, I wouldn’t hire a drug user.
Has the drug addict professor looked at the personal and societal devastation from “recreational” drug use? Forgetting societal devastation for a moment, outside of the aforementioned Hunter Biden, I know few drug addicts whose lives are not in ruins. Beautiful women turned to skanks or worse. And men who turn into shells of their former selves.
Let’s break this down a little further.
Professor Hart seems to believe he is in complete control over his drug use. In fact, that is actually what he is selling as he hawks his book and his folklore story. But I beg to differ. He indicates that he likes to do a few lines after work to help him decompress and relax and get him ready for the next day. In reality, he doesn’t do this to relax, he does it because his body is screaming for it by the time he gets home. The great professor is addicted to heroin.
What’s worse is his attempt to justify it by saying harmful and illicit drug use by adults is ok because it’s not infringing on anybody’s rights. But can a heroin addict that teaches young adults really make that definitive assertion? Why not ask the parents who are footing the bill for a very expensive college education if they believe this professor is not influencing their children directly or indirectly.
Time for the Kickbacks
Think about the hundreds of parents that are part of the Columbia University’s family. How many of those walked their own children through addiction issues? Had endless sleepless nights, and excessive worrying for their wellbeing? Some finally get their kids through teenage addiction issues. Then they drop them off at a prestigious university so that they can move on with their lives. These parents believe their children will come back and productive members of society. But if the professor is recommending heroin, why not link up with the local rehabs?
I can see if now. Take Professor Hart’s class and receive a 10% discount at the local rehab ranch.
Relapse is always a real treat. Fresh from rehab, young Fred ends up in the professor’s class, sees him in the auditorium on a panel discussion, or at his book signing on campus. It doesn’t matter where, because it only takes one suggestion of the drug of choice, especially heroin, to put a true addict back in the grips of drug induced devastation.
I’d say that’s infringing on someone’s rights.
The way I remember it, we are supposed to be free all the way until our actions inhibit someone else’s freedom. The right to go to a place of higher learning without his professor acting as a drug pusher by romanticizing heroin use, and in this case – the professor’s addiction as he tries to normalize it.
Unfortunately, Hart believes he achieves work/life balance through heroin. What he won’t say is that his life sucks. Thus, he needs chemicals to cope. That’s the real message. And if you have about 75 grand, your kid can get that message up close and personal. Heck, Hart might even throw in a few samples for the class.
